Privacy Policy
- AutoPause does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal data.
- It has no servers, no analytics, no ads, and no account system.
- Your settings, two small counters and one "rate prompt shown" flag are saved only in your own browser.
- It runs only on
www.youtube.comandmusic.youtube.com.
1. What the extension does
AutoPause is a browser extension for YouTube and YouTube Music. It has two features:
- Tab Auto-Pause: pauses the video when you switch tabs or minimize the window, and resumes it when you come back.
- NonStop Playback: detects YouTube's "Video paused. Continue watching?" prompt (and YouTube Music's "Still listening?") and dismisses it so playback continues.
To do this, the extension looks at the video player and on-screen dialogs of the YouTube page you have open. All of this processing happens inside your browser, in real time, and nothing is recorded or sent anywhere.
2. Data we collect
None. AutoPause does not collect, log, or transmit:
- personal information (name, email, address, or any identifier)
- your YouTube account, watch history, search history, or the videos you watch
- browsing history, website content, location, or IP address
- authentication information, financial data, health data, or communications
- analytics, telemetry, crash reports, or usage statistics
The extension makes no network requests of its own and does not load any remote code.
3. Data stored locally on your device
AutoPause uses Chrome's chrome.storage.local to remember your preferences. This data never leaves your computer and is not synced to any server we control.
| Item | Purpose |
|---|---|
| On/off switches (e.g. Tab Auto-Pause, Resume on return, NonStop Playback, notifications) | So your choices stay the same after you restart Chrome |
| Two counters: "Auto-pauses" and "Prompts skipped" | Shown in the popup so you can see what AutoPause handled. They are plain numbers with no video titles, times, or URLs. |
| A "rate prompt shown" flag | Remembers that you've already seen or dismissed the one-time "Enjoying AutoPause? Rate it" message, so it never appears again. |
Uninstalling the extension deletes all of this data automatically.
4. Permissions and why they are needed
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
storage | Saves your settings and counters locally, as described above. |
Access to www.youtube.com and music.youtube.com | Lets the extension pause or resume the player and detect the "Continue watching?" prompt. It does not run on any other website. |
To help prevent the prompt from appearing, AutoPause periodically updates YouTube's own in-page "last activity" timer while the Prevent the prompt option is on. This value stays inside the YouTube page and is not read, stored, or sent by the extension.
5. Third parties
AutoPause does not sell, rent, transfer, or share data with anyone, because it has none to share. It contains no third-party SDKs, trackers, or advertising.
After AutoPause has handled 25 interruptions, the popup shows a one-time "Rate it" link, and a "Help" link opens this website. Both open in a new tab. Your use of YouTube and the Chrome Web Store is governed by Google's Privacy Policy, not by this policy.
6. Chrome Web Store User Data Policy
The use of information received from Chrome APIs complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. AutoPause uses browser data only to provide its single purpose, controlling YouTube playback interruptions, and for no other purpose.
7. Children
AutoPause does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children under 13, because it collects no information at all.
8. Your choices
- Turn any feature, or the whole extension, off at any time from the popup.
- Clear the stored settings by removing the extension from
chrome://extensions. - Because we hold no personal data, there is nothing to request, export, or delete from us. You are welcome to contact us with any questions.
9. Changes to this policy
If a future version changes how data is handled, this page will be updated before that version is released, and the effective date above will change. Any new data practice will also be disclosed on the Chrome Web Store listing.
