ScriptSnap: Transcript for YouTube (Chrome extension) · Effective 26 September 2026

In short: ScriptSnap works entirely inside your browser. It does not collect, sell or send your data to the developer or anyone else. There are no accounts, no analytics and no ads.

What ScriptSnap handles

What ScriptSnap does not do

Network requests

To load a transcript, ScriptSnap requests the transcript and caption data for the current video from youtube.com, the same data YouTube uses for its own transcript panel. These requests go only to YouTube and are covered by Google's privacy policy.

AI prompts

If you use the AI tools, ScriptSnap copies a prompt and the transcript to your clipboard and opens the AI website you picked (ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini). Nothing is sent automatically. The text only reaches that service if you paste it in yourself, and that service's own privacy policy then applies.

Permissions

PermissionWhy it's needed
storageSaves your settings and starred lines.
https://www.youtube.com/*Adds the buttons and panel to YouTube and reads the current video's captions.

Children

ScriptSnap does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under 13.

Deleting your data

Uninstalling ScriptSnap removes its saved settings and starred lines from Chrome. Files you downloaded stay on your computer until you delete them.

This website

This website has no cookies, no analytics and no tracking scripts. It loads fonts from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address to deliver them.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new effective date. Any change to how data is handled will be announced in the extension's store listing before it takes effect.
